STATEMENT OF ART PRACTICE

Tanta DeStaffany Pennington

My work is initiated through the gathering of ordinary objects that exist in the world. By carefully studying these found pieces and utilizing the visual and tactile history of my previous work I  transform these various elements into abstract geographical and architectural spaces.   While there are always unexpected turns and surprise destinations, creating the two-or three-dimensional drawings, paintings and sculptures it has become my method for navigating the blurry terrain between  the known and the unknown. Exploring the boundaries between my imagination and the real world  allows me to push beyond my accustomed parameters and investigate the relationships that link my art to everyday life.

    Hi Tanta:
It was delightful to be met by your delightfully dramatic and complex work when we stepped into the Oswego a few nights ago!
The work makes the ambience open, happy, warm.

Keep it up for a long time. We’ll be back soon.
